Max found that he could use his uncle’s particle changing machine to alter reality. So he managed to tweak it to alter his mind into Scarlett Johansson’s body.
He did not take into consideration the butterfly effect, which effected all reality.
Now, he originally never set up the machine, so there is no timer to put everything back. And now he saw first hand that in this reality Scarlett never got into the cinema business, but went by the stage name of Scar Cummings.
